Arlene: We Know the Source of Our Resilience
Israeli Arlene Kushner’s March 15 posting, https://arlenefromisrael.info/We-Know-the-Source-of-Our-Resilience/, encompasses all that is Israel. She describes nights filled with cluster bombs and shelters, the exhaustion of sleep deprivation, and the tension of an entire nation on edge.
Yet through it all she says there is one thing she never once heard: “OMG, we’re going to lose this war.” Instead, she speaks with awe about what she calls the modern state of Israel – how after 2,000 years of dispersion among the nations, the Jewish people have preserved their identity and ultimately returned to their homeland. And when David Ben-Gurion declared the statehood of Israel, it was followed, almost immediately by an invasion from five Arab nations.
In the years that followed came the Six Day War and the Yom Kippur War. Yet Israel managed not only to survive but to flourish – growing in strength and resilience, and global significance.
Over the course of the past almost 78 years, Israel’s remarkable advances in medicine, agriculture and advanced technology have had a far reaching impact, benefitting people in nations throughout the world.
