There is a powerful documentary on Amazon titled “Against All Odds,” directed by Michael Greenspan. The film recounts, along with other maybe-miracles, the extraordinary events surrounding the founding of the State of Israel in 1948.
Within 24 hours of declaring independence, the newly established nation was invaded by the armies of seven Arab countries. These forces were well-equipped, organized and professionally trained. In contrast, many of the Israeli fighters were recent immigrants and volunteers with little or no formal military training.
They faced severe shortages of weapons, ammunition and equipment, at one point having a single operational tank.
Despite being vastly outnumbered, and outgunned, the Israeli forces ultimately prevailed.
The documentary highlights not only the military challenges they faced, but also the determination, resilience and unity that played a decisive role in their survival against overwhelming odds.
