Steve Kramer: Why the World Hates Us

Why They Hate Us – The World vs. The Jews

August 1, 2025

Israel is being castigated almost universally for its war against the terrorist group Hamas in Gaza. The animosity towards Israel for this defensive war to destroy Hamas and release 50 captives has concurrently worsened the stature of Diaspora Jews.

Foreign ministers from 28 countries [now 20 and counting], including Australia, France, Japan and the U.K., released a joint statement Monday condemning Israel’s ongoing attacks on Palestinian targets in Gaza and its “inhumane killing of civilians.” The “suffering” of the population in the densely occupied territory has “reached new depths,” said the statement. It also called for the “immediate and unconditional” release of Israeli hostages in Gaza. (https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/28-nations-condemn-israel-s-inhumane-killing-in-gaza/ar-AA1J5eI8)

On October 7, 2023, Hamas surreptitiously infiltrated Israel and killed about 1,200 persons, kidnapping more than 250. The next day, Israel declared war on Hamas. Comparing populations at the time, Israeli casualties were equivalent to 14X the number killed at Pearl Harbor. For its response, Israel is “attacked” daily by every type of media for attempting to extricate its captives and remove the terrorists from Gaza.

Many false articles accusing Israel of starving and killing Gazans have appeared recently in influential news sources. Countries at war are not responsible for feeding the enemy population. (e.g. wars against Germany, Japan, N. Korea, Vietnam) Nevertheless, Israel is doing its best to feed the Gazans, despite Hamas stealing as much as it can.

Consumers of news form their opinions from what they see, hear, or read, in print, on TV, on podcasts, and especially on social media. What they see portrays Israel “starving” the Gazans regardless of the circumstances. The New York Times recently reported an egregious example of this, which was immediately circulated throughout the media: (7/25/25) A haunting photo of an emaciated toddler cradled by his mother dominated the front page of Friday’s New York Times.

“Mohammed Zakaria al-Mutawaq, about 18 months, with his mother, Hedaya al-Mutawaq, who said he was born healthy but was recently diagnosed with severe malnutrition,” the original caption said…. On Tuesday night, the newspaper announced that it had revised the story, saying that it had learned that the child had underlying [genetic] medical issues that affected his muscle development. The revision removed the mother’s quote from the story saying that Mohammed had been born healthy and added context from his doctor….”

The correction didn’t appear in the regular edition of the paper, but in a sister publication with a tiny circulation. 55 million people read this story and 88,000 saw the correction. Regardless, corrections can never erase the perfidy which the NYT regularly indulges it. (https://www.thejewishnews.com/jewish-telegraphic-agency)

It’s telling that true famine in countries such as Yemen, South Sudan, Haiti, the Congo, Chad and Somalia receive little or no coverage. Pictures from Yemen and South Sudan have been misidentified as in Gaza. This perpetrates blood libel against Israel. Unfortunately, “Jews are news” and if Israel isn’t involved, there is little publicity about global atrocities. For example, “The UN estimates that 60 percent of the estimated 377,000 deaths in Yemen between 2015 and the beginning of 2022 were the result of indirect causes like food insecurity and lack of accessible health services.” (CFR.org) Who knows anything about that?

You can witness similar libel against Israel almost any day in legacy media, cable TV, and social media. These outlets regularly misreport events in Israel and in Gaza. The reported number of Arab casualties are taken as factual with no verification, and are often not even acknowledged as information received from a Hamas run “health” organization. Israel is accused of war-mongering and involving the US in Israel’s “aggressions” against its enemies. Despite the continuous accusations blaming Israel, Hamas is the party responsible for the suffering of the residents of Gaza. But do you hear that from the media? NO.

This deliberate and hateful campaign against Israel is part of a concerted effort to paint Israel, and by extension all Jews, in the worst possible light. Incidents abound of Jews in the Diaspora being denied entrance to events, hotels, and even planes, as well as being excluded from clubs, societies, colleges, and job opportunities…even Greek Island ports and Belgian music festivals! There is a growing attitude singling out Jews as venal, sly, overly successful, overly intelligent, overly competitive, and in general, undesirable.

The truth is that fighting in Gaza would stop if Hamas would lay down its arms, release ALL the captives dead and alive, and leave Gaza. Do you hear that from the media? NO. The sympathy engendered for Israel following the 10/7 horrible, barbaric Hamas massacre lasted not even a week, though Israel retaliated only weeks later. Many months ago I suggested that the automatic response – Blame Hamas! – be the repeated mantra to combat Arab propaganda. How often do you hear that from the media?

Jews worldwide are at a crisis point. Diaspora Jews are inextricably linked to Israeli Jews, even if they aren’t happy about it. Western countries, en masse, are combining against Israel, trying to force Israel to stop resisting a jihadi state in the making – Palestine – right next door. Would any one of those increasingly unfriendly states allow a “Palestine” to be established on its borders? Not France, not the UK, not Canada, not Norway, not Sweden, not Ireland, and not Spain, which denies secession to Basques in Spain’s north and to Catalonia (Barcelona) on the Mediterranean.

There is widespread bias in international media against Israel, which inevitably is applied to all Jews. Facts on the ground are intentionally misrepresented and Hamas heinous treatment of Gazans goes unreported. The false narratives which depict Israel as a villain contribute to negative perceptions of Israelis and Jews globally, perpetuating very harmful stereotypes, such as bloodthirsty, warmongering, and sadistic. The Jewish Telegraphic Agency (https://www.jta.org/) and HonestReporting.com are two of the many organization telling the truth about Israel. Try looking at these or similar sites to see the true picture.
