Bloggers – Dan Vaughen

Daniel Vaughen is a lifelong Friend, presently a member of the DeLand (Fla) Meeting. A member of the Southeastern Yearly Meeting, he has served and clerked on several of its committees. In the 1970s, he served two non-consecutive terms as yearly meeting clerk. A retired attorney, he is married to Susan Phillips Vaughen for 62 years and counting.

Dan recently authored Back to the Books: Reimagining the Core of Our Faith in the Friends Journal.

Beyond being eminently qualified through these long involvements to discuss Quaker views of Israel with us U.S. Jewish grassroots, Dan was my roommate at the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1964. We’re still close [lower case ‘f’] friends. I’ve driven down to visit with Dan & Susan in recent years twice.

We’ll get to discussing specifics of differences on Israel between grassroots Quakers and grassroots Jews. For openers in my first blog, I want to convey to you more broadly my personal Quaker beliefs on violence and peace.
