Israeli Woman Breaking Barriers in Space

With the focus on Artemis 2 looping around the moon, it’s a good time to look at the Israeli space program and the Israeli woman breaking barriers in space.

Dr. Shimrit Tirosh Maman, 45, is the first woman appointed chairperson of the Israeli Space Agency (ISA) at the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, and a senior scientist at Ben-Gurion University (BDU).

She founded “She Space,” a BGU educational project that encourages high school girls to become involved in “STEAM” (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). The project won the IAF’s annual excellence in 3G Diversity Award in 2021 and her high school girls won third place in a competition in Sourh Korea against people with ten years’ experience in the industry.
